Results economy

Have you ever heard of “Results economy” ? It is an economy where the entire focus is on results. No one cares how many hours a day you work. No one cares if you even work but the only condition being results to show.

If you can send out 10 emails a day and get reverts on 3-4 then you are more successful than the one who sent 100 without a single revert.

We are moving towards an economy where hardwork takes a backseat while getting the desired results through smartwork will get to hold the steering.

Organisations are lately acknowledging the fact that forcing employees to sit in office atleast 9 hours a day doesn’t really help. It only makes employees waste more time in office hours.

In the new results economy, your boss will give you a list of results (tasks) every morning and if you accomplish these results by afternoon then you can happily leave without even a pay cut.

The benefit of results economy is that it will encourage employees to think of innovative/ out of the box ways of completing a task as getting the desired result is key.

In Results economy no one will tell you what road to take to the destination. It’s totally upto you to choose any road or maybe dig up an entirely new road.

You are getting outdated

Have you ever noticed that you are far better at using technology as compared to your parents? Most of you would have experienced this feeling of superiority when it comes to technology.

Also, have you noticed that kids these days are far more comfortable at smartphone at a very tender age. My 4 year old brother knows how to click using snapchat filters. He is more efficient at Subway Surf game than myself.

This made me realise that we are getting outdated. Just like our parents are having difficulty with technology, we may well be standing at their place in the next 10 years. The pace at technology is moving forward, it is almost certain that if this generation doesn’t keep up with the trends then it’ll be soon rendered outdated.

Imagine being called outdated in your 30s and asking your newborn how a particular feature works on your smartphone.

Nowadays I think newborns are coming with some technical knowledge pre-installed by god to face this good bad world.

The only way for us to stay relevant a little longer is by keeping our devices away from children. It is not scientifically advisable to give child a smartphone before 15.

But I’ve seen mothers use their smartphones as a silencing device. Whenever the child starts crying, they give them a smartphone and there’s pin drop silence in the room.

Mothers please don’t do this. It has a bad mental impact on your child and even worse impact on our generation’s technical abilities.

Please help us stay relevant a little longer. Keep your smartphones away from those tiny bits and if you don’t then be prepared to take some serious hits.

Planning before a wedding

Today I’ve to go to a wedding. It is after ages that our family has been invited for a wedding. I love weddings for just 1 reason ie free food.

This time I’ve decided that I’ll not get swayed by the cuisines. The mistake I did in the past weddings I’ve attended is of picking up a dish and loading it with things I like. You do it the same way probably. But there is 1 problem with this approach. By the end of your whole circle of the food arena, you are left regretting of filling your dish a bit too much with the things you mildly like vs the things that you really like which were at the later end of the circle.

This time I won’t commit this mistake. The only way to not commit this mistake is to plan it better. First take a good long round of all the things on offer without a dish in your hand just to explore all that’s on offer. Then after this round, decide in your head what all needs to be put on your dish and in what quantity.

Now you’re ready for your wedding meal which you won’t regret. This approach will not only help you prevent overeating but also help reduce the overall wastage of food. There’s tonnes of good quality food that gets wasted in every indian wedding which could well be used to fill many more empty stomachs.

Whenever something is free, don’t exploit it. Remember someone somewhere is always paying for it. When it comes to something like food, I hope you eat responsibily and not waste the food that could have filled a poor person’s stomach.

Free food is great but only until it makes you waste food.

Eat responsibily! Maybe then God will bless your family with many more wedding invitations.

Perspective on death

Most/ almost all of us are scared of death. Our idea of death is when everything ends and we’ve to leave everything we once loved/ can’t ‘live’ (not die) without.

But recently I watched a documentary on Egypt and it taught me a lesson or two on death. Ancient Egyptians treated death as freedom. A liberation from the material self to a higher state of being.

They believed in the concept of afterlife. The other side of death is something that always fascinated them. This can also be observed in the way the dead are treated in Egypt. Pyramids built to house the dead along with all of his belongings that he used in his lifetime (even his toothbrush).

Egypt taught me to have a more balanced / light view around death. Now I see it as a transition from my present state of being to a higher state of being.

Egypt taught me that what seems like the end can possibly be the beginning of something much better.

It made me realise how pessimistic (negative) I was when it came to the subject of death.

Here I conclude, you are an immortal being who keeps transitioning from one state of being to another. You never truly die. So you better live without the fear of death.

Cold (micro blog)

What is cold? Is it the fever you catch when you drink something cold? Or is it the cold weather? This blog is about none of of these interpretations of cold. It’s about our cold approach towards life situations.

Say you score really bad in exams but you’re cold about it. You are not freakin out, not panicking, you are just cool with it. While the society expects a different reaction from you. The reason behind your cold reaction to the situation can be plenty- maybe you are dissillusioned to the fact that formal education is a scam or maybe these were just the practice exams and won’t have any weightage in your final result.

But what’s important to note here is that being cold (indifferent) to a situation mostly has a good reason behind it.

It’s actually good to have a cold behaviour in certain aspects of life. It helps you stay light and at ease. It allows you more mental space to think about things that actually matter and not freak out about the things that don’t.

There is 1 big requirement to be cold to any kind of a situation. It’s the extent of your awareness about the things happening and all the parties involved.

Like getting bad score even in practice test can be bad if your parents are serious about it (which they always are). So knowing the reaction of all the other parties involved becomes critical here.

It’s not bad to have a cold behaviour towards a situation. Rather it helps you invest your thoughts in better things. But it’s a tough skill to master.

It’s essentially about carving out the things that are actually important to you from the things that the world wants you to perceive as important.

Being cold is difficult but it’s somewhat cool.

Nationalism (part 2)

There is another important angle to nationalism that was left untouched in the first part. The angle of politics.

The rise of the whole narrative and fuss around nationalism is because of the “Divide and Rule” policy of Indian political parties. Divide and rule was first used by the British to colonize India and sadly today Indian policy parties are using the same method to win elections.

Nationalism as a concept and word was never as prominent as it’s been in the past 4 years. The years of BJP rule. Also, the 4 years have been amazing for the BJP (not much for the nation).

If you can make the relation here, you would realise that the success of BJP was backed by a strong hindutva narrative. A sheer evidence of divide and rule.

Mind you, I’m not saying that Congress does not use the same method. But it’s just that BJP has been able to pull it off better.

Congress always carried a vague ideology around the issue of religion and this may well be the 2nd biggest reason for their failure (Rahul Gandhi being the 1st).

The whole JNU incident, beef ban, “Mandir Vahin Bnega” were part of instilling the Hindu nationalist sentiment among the voters of this country.

2019 is just round the corner and some more such incidents are coming our way. But let’s keep our eyes open this time and not be swayed by the fake “nationalist” drama happening all around us.

Nationalism

A topic I had long being thinking to write on. Nationalism is the sense of pride you HAVE in belonging to a nation. But the problem is that the wrong and popular definition is the pride you SHOW in belonging to a nation.

This is the reason why standing up for national anthem feels so much like a chore. Atleast to me it does. I don’t actually want to stand but neither do I want those weird looks from people if I don’t. I mean c’mon, I bought the ticket to watch the movie and now the authorities want me to SHOW my respect for the nation before the movie starts.

How silly is it to label a citizen as anti national just on the fact that he/she didn’t stand for the anthem. Why do I have to give the proof of my love for my country in my own country?

I want to humbly request the authorities to stop checking for nationalism in the citizens. Because love can’t be said or proved but felt. Don’t ruin this feeling of my love for the nation by trying to force love into me.

I can die for this country. But I should never have to say that. The reason I said that was because you wanted a proof to my nationalism.

But I’m saying this for the last time- I love this country and don’t need to give it’s proof to anyone.

True love is when the 2 parties know that the other party loves you. Asking for constant proof means lack of trust. Lack of trust kills love.

My nation is too amazing to be insecure about being loved back.

The authorities need to understand that it’s a mighty 7th largest country by area and not a possessive girlfriend.

Education is a scam

There I said it. Education is a big scam in our country. Everyone is studying the same thing to be converted to a very similar replaceable product.

This system was designed for the Industrial age where workers needed little to no intellectual ability to work on machines. But today the situation is different. We are living in the information age. The more you know, the better it is. But when you look at the education system today, it’s still the same.

No one has bothered to change the education system to suit the requirements of the present world. This is not just the fault of the officials in power but us. We never demanded a change in the system. We kept following whatever way it was. The result of which is in the internet age most students are pulling off all nighters to rote learn entire textbooks.

Let’s accept it. Education is reduced to the credentials. A school certificate then a degree from a good college is all we want. Good education? Few want that.

If we knew the value of good education then most of us would be spending more time on the internet reading about things of our interest and not rote learning entire textbooks. Formal education is a scam. What’s even more fascinating is that we’re willing to be scammed.

We’re willing to take up debt to be caught up for the next 3 years studying what 1000s other students are studying expecting that it’ll make you unique. Not happening my friend, not happening.

I know, you are already flaring up with questions like- Then What’s the right way to do it?

The right way (imo) is to take charge of your education. Outsourcing something as important as your education to a 200 year old system is dumb. You need to know where your interest areas are and try and get the skillset that’ll get you work in the area of your interest.

You can get this skillset by doing internet courses without spending a shitload on getting a college degree.

This is a bit extreme opinion. You may think I’m over exaggerating the whole broken education system thing. But mark my words you’ll agree the day when a computer will take away your job.

The only way to be sure of a safe career is by taking charge of your own education.

Education is a life long process. It doesn’t end with a college degree.

Don’t let the system scam you.

Take charge.

Accepting the lows

Taking the unconventional path ain’t easy. You fail more often than the rest. You hit hit new lows which often makes you think about quitting.

But then you realise that this is meant to be difficult, because if it were easy so many more would have taken this path.

Once you accept this difficulty, it’s only then that you start to accept failures. You will know when you hit new lows but you will also know that this’ll not last long.

The struggle is part of the hustle. When we look at people who took their own path and are successful today. We are often exposed to the more glamorous side of their lives. Something we never get to see is the failures they had to go through. The lowly lows that they had to deal with.

Success doesn’t come easy. You first have to be willing to fail and accept failure and try again a million times before you meet the tunnel end light called success.

Always remember there is dusk before every dawn. You just need to go through the dark hours of the night to meet the light on the other side.

Existentialism

A lot people I meet tell me that they are going through existentialism. What this means is they are unsure of what is their role on this planet. They simply don’t know why do they exist, hence the term existentialism.

It feels like a modern epidemic. Earlier people didn’t suffer from existentialism. Even if they did they would not know that such a thing exists. But the real question to ask here is- why do such questions pop in their head?

The reason is lack of a higher than self purpose in life. The people who usually suffer from this are people who always kept following what everyone else is doing without giving much thought to what is their uniqueness. What is it that separates him/her from all others? What is it that moves them to the core?

All these questions are something they never thought about and now as a result they start questioning their own existence.

But he to overcome/not fall for existentialism?

This is easier than it seems. Ask yourself what is your higher purpose in life. What can you work your whole life for. Let this thing be over ambitious, something that is very difficult to achieve. Something that deserves your time and energy. For example, if female oppression moves you then your higher purpose in life can be to get women their basic rights and protect women against any unfair treatment.

When you have this kind of a purpose in life which not only involves your own good but well being of so many more is impacted. That is when you would never question your existence.

You exist for a reason. A reason that is bigger than you. Find that reason because that’s the reason why you exist.
