Why can’t I divorce my brother? (micro blog)
The original topic suggested was “why is divorce only for a couple, what can’t I divorce a family member (say my brother)”. I must confess, researching for this micro blog was so much fun that it thrice had me laughing my skin out.
The topic suggested was actually very genuine. Why is it that only a couple can get legally separated. Why can’t one legally stop being related to the people whom he/she doesn’t like at all. But as it turns out. There are legal ways of getting out of any relationship even a bro & sis relationship.
Yes you can divorce your sibling.
There are 2 main ways to do this:-
1. Legal (long process but let’s just call it legal for simplicity)
2. Get your sibling adopted
The legal process is a bit long, you can read about it on Google. While the 2nd option is pretty straight forward. Just get your sibling adopted.
This may seem a bit funny but people actually do get divorced to there siblings. They do this when they don’t have a child to inherit their life earnings but hate their siblings so much that they don’t want to give them a penny. So they get them divorced.
To my surprise, there are even dedicated helplines for reporting domestic violence from siblings. Although I read this about some other country. Not really sure if India has such a helpline. But if it does, then man I need this number.
Punching me around midnight, while I’m already asleep, is domestic violence, isn’t it? Waking me up by tickling in the inside of my nose using a cloth is domestic violence.
If India had/has a helpline to report this kinda violence. Then I desperately need it. Even while I’m trying to write this, she snatched my phone twice just for fun.
But I can’t divorce her as:
1. My parents won’t let me take the legal route (too lengthy and expensive)
2. She won’t find an adoptor. Even my parents picked her up from nowhere out of pure sympathy.
3. I love her
