Quest for happiness leads to sadness.

The perpetual state of unhappinss that most of us live in has a reason behind it. It is not that our ancestors were not unsatisfied and content with the way things were back then. But it also can’t be denied that our generation is worse in respect of general happiness.

The reason for this unhappiness is that we are caught in a cycle of want>>fulfill>>happy>>want more. We have wants and we believe that once these wants get fulfilled, we will be really happy, while what actually happens is as soon as a want gets fulfilled instead of feeling happy about it and celebrating, we start thinking about the next higher want we need to accomplish and attach our happiness to that thing. Once we even accomplish the higher want, we start thinking about the next higher want in line. Hence, we are never satisfied and in a perpetual state of unhappiness.

It should be clear to the reader by now, that our constant and never ending quest for happiness is itself keeping us unhappy and unsatisfied.

Then the question arises, how do we get happiness then?

Start counting your blessings, start appreciating yourself for what you have achieved so far, try and make others happy, go out of the way and compliment people, try to make someone’s day, be selfless when possible. If you can make the people around you happy then this has an influence on you and your state of happiness.

Stop trying to find happiness in future endeavors. Try to make this moment beautiful. Celebrate the moment and remember that the collective happiness of the people close to you is equal to your happiness.
