Why is it cool to speak in English and listen to English songs? (micro blog)

You know that guy can’t even speak English in one flow but see how successful he is. Eh, what does being successful have in connection with speaking a foreign language.

Broo, did you listen to this new song? No, I listen to Bollywood only. What?! Bollywood, your taste is bad and that’s so sad.

Why is it that we Indians are so attracted/influenced by a foreign language. While our own language hindi has a long history of literature. Hindi was used to write heart touching shayaris, poems and what not.

Then what made us glorify English as a language. Short answer, the English themselves. Yes, they ruled over us for a long period of time and during this period, the people with authority were people speaking in English.

This instilled it in the minds of us Indians that speaking in English makes us superior to others. This mindset stayed even after independence.

After independence, we called this westernization but essentially this was just Indians with lack of self esteem looking up to British who seemed confident with what they did.

Humans have a tendency to mimic what seems superior to them and Indians are no different.

So the primary and fundamental reason for English being considered cool is
