Unlearning takes a lot of time.
We all know the importance of learning. Something that we don’t know about is unlearning. Which is as important as learning or maybe even more.
But why is unlearning important? Because a lot of what we are taught in schools and colleges doesn’t really work well in the real world or instead works against us.
I’m saying this from experience. My 12th got over around March last year and it was then that I told my parents that I don’t want to go down the conventional path of college. They asked me for how much time would I need to show results in what I do. I told them one year would be good.
But now it’s almost a year, the results didn’t show up as I thought they would. Why is this so? Because the real world is so much different from the school life. I had to unlearn a lot of things taught in school to start doing good in the real world.
For eg. In school there is always someone telling you what to do, a syllabus to tell you what to study. While in the real world you yourself have to think what you have to do and why and see if you do it the best of your ability. In school they tell you that failure is bad while out here in the real world, failure is good and should be sought for.
I can go on and on telling you the differences because there are just so many. But the problem is unlearning all that takes a lot of time.
It is because it took around 15 years for the system to program us according to the school. Now getting away from this program is difficult because it has gone deep into our subconscious mind.
I hope my parents read this and understand why the results didn’t show up as quick as they wanted. The unlearning is important and takes time.
If you ask, have I unlearned all that I should? No, I’m still unlearning and it’ll still take much time. But once I unlearn all I need to, it’ll be uphill from there. Let’s hope it’ll be uphill from there.
