The case with Snapchat.

A company which almost shot into the lives of every American teenager when it first launched. The reason for this massive success were disappearing snaps which expire in 24 hours after uploading.

Everyone loved the idea of photos automatically getting deleted from the platform after 24 hours. People no longer had to stare at a picture for hours, judging if it is worth posting or not because anyway it’ll disappear in a day.

But then Instagram saw Snapchat taking away it’s audience just because of one feature. So Instagram told it’s users-hey wait, we’ll get the feature here for you. Hence, Instagram story was born.

Now that Instagram has stories along with posts and chat. Snapchat is stripped of it’s uniqueness. What followed for Snapchat is a steep downslide in the number of users and market value.

Though Snapchat somehow managed to keep the early teen population because of the more interesting snap filters and personalized stickers.

The company is struggling to keep up with the expectations it raised in it’s early days. To survive in the competitive social media landscape, Snapchat will need to come up with something as interesting and unique as disappearing snaps.

In my view, I still believe Snapchat will do well given the appeal it has to the younger kids. If you’ve not tried Snapchat as yet, you should definitely give it a shot.

After all, Snapchat redifined social media.
